Partners and Donors

UNDP has had a presence in Sierra Leone since 1965, working in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, development partners, UN agencies, civil society and local communities, contributing to good governance, peace and prosperity.

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Mission in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) was established by Security Council Resolution (1829) of 4th August, 2008. The UN Security Council mandate to UNIPSIL involves both political and development activities which includes the following:

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, delivers a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person's potential is fulfilled.

The Special Court for Sierra Leone was set up jointly by the Government of Sierra Leone and the United Nations. It is mandated to try those who bear the greatest responsibility for serious violations of international humanitarian law and Sierra Leonean law committed in the territory of Sierra Leone since 30 November 1996.
